Traditionally when looking for a product or service on the internet, all you needed to do was open your web browser and type into Google “find me what I’m looking for”. And for year this was enough, Google provided a hassle free way of returning results.
But Google didn’t always have the crown, this was taken from Yahoo. Google offered a less cluttered search interface and provided more accurate search results.
For years marketers would look for ways to cheat the system and list their sites at the top of the first page of Google. If you weren’t at the top of Google, you didn’t exist.
